First Belly Laugh!

I have to document Gabriel's first belly laugh yesterday (January 22, 2010)! "Gabie Babie" has laughed a few times before, but never like this. This laugh lasted for a few seconds and was sooo adorable! He first laughed at me and then Josh when Josh got off work. He also now enjoys his jumper which is super cute. Amy gave me a great idea to put a pillow under his feet ,so that he can actually move himself, and he loves it!!! I have pics and video that I will add later. I have to watch when I upload because Josh plays his games and "pings" all over the map when I upload! Same thing when I'm at my parents and my brother is gaming! haha =0).

3 months, really?!

Gabriel is 3 months old now and I affectionately call him "Gabie Babie!" I know that is spelled wrong, but that is how it sounds when I say it =0). He is FINALLY starting to get used to the outside world (out of the womb) and is actually starting to enjoy his little self. He loves to be talked to and smiles, coos, and gurgles in his conversations. I have a few videos of him, but he gets distracted and stops laughing once the camera comes out. Here are a few recent pics of my chunker:

This looks like torture, I know, but its just to keep his head from bouncing back as he jumps up and down. My mom taught me to do this and he likes his jumper =)
Gabriel does not like "tummy time" much unless he is laying on my stomach. When I lay him on a mat or the floor he gets fussy, but I'm learning quickly what he likes and does not like. I simply avoid what he doesn't like because he can be pretty cranky!

The little guy is getting so heavy! I don't have an exact weight on him but I can guess he is about 14 lbs.. He was 12.6 at his 2 month appointment and had gained almost 3 lbs from month 1-2. I'll know for sure when I actually go out and buy a scale. He is wearing 3-6 month clothes now and some 0-3 month but not all. Its sad to let clothes go when they are too small..

Other mile stones..Gabriel is almost pulling himself up by his tummy muscles. He does not like to lay on his back and tries REAL hard to sit up. He sucks on his hands on a regular basis, doesn't much like his paci anymore, and is sleeping in 5 hour intervals. Our typical schedule is: bed time at 10:30-11 p.m., wake up to eat at 3:50 a.m., and then awake again at 8:30-9:00 a.m.. I know most moms like to put their kids to bed early but then they end up waking up early and that is just not cool for me! I would rather have him awake with us until later than wake up at 6 and 7 a.m.. Gabriel tends to like this schedule and has a MUCH better disposition when I let him do his own thing.

I have decided against shots for now. When he starts moving and shaking I'll probably get him the DTaP but until then I do not see an immediate need. The Hep B shot is one of the most ridiculous of them all. The hospital wants to give babies their first shot IN the hospital (2 DAYS OLD!), and it is a shot to prevent babies from getting a disease that is transmitted through sex and needle sharing. I can assure you that my 2 day old son is not doing either of those things! I have also been tested and don't have it, so who do they think he'll get the disease from..I assume they are afraid the kids will get diseases at daycare, but Gabriel isn't going near a daycare so I think he'll be o.k.. Not to mention the autism rate increased three fold (according to a doc. on the radio the other day) since the Hep B was introduced. It makes complete sense as Hep B causes inflammation of the liver, why not an immature brain stem in a pre mature babe? Not to mention 1 in every 150 kids has autism but only 30 kids die each year of Pertussis (in the ENTIRE US!), so which is the greater risk here? Look on the FDA web site and the shots still contain Thimerosal even though the doc's (including my pediatrician) will tell you otherwise. Most of them also contain Formaldehyde. Anyway, no other Country vaccinates like we do. Denmark has an infant mortality rate of 4.4/1000 live births and the US is 6.2/1000 live births. Denmarks recommends 14 shots within the first 15 months of a child's life compared to our 36! Anyway, I am not saying I WON'T do vaccines just that I am going to wait a little while and then separate them out a bit. The major problems seem to come when shots are given all at once and too often.

Gabriel is doing great and parents are too! We can't get enough of the little guy =). I think that is probably enough for now BUT I'll be back soon to write more!

The New Year!

I am so thrilled to start off the year with a beautiful baby to hold! Gabriel is now a little over 13 lbs. and can fit both 0-3 and some 3-6 month clothes. Yesterday he laughed the loudest and longest I have heard at daddy! Gabriel peed on daddy and thought dad's reaction was extremely funny =). We have missed him the past two days as we spent them at the Raleigh wedding show. My mom watched Mr. Gabriel while we worked to bring in business for the year. I pumped milk for him in a parking lot and then in the bathroom. It is pretty embarrassing to sit in the bathroom for 20 minutes and then walk out and wonder if anyone saw you going in! haha! I hope to not be doing that too often! I can not stand being away from Gabriel, its so hard. I really don't know how women leave their kids for work.. it must be incredibly difficult for them. I am blessed to have a job I can work from home. Thank you husband for providing for Gabriel and I!
